Our greeter at Rio Grande Village campsite. |
Our first visit to Big Bend National Park (together) happened in March 2011. Obviously, a fairly cool period near the Rio Grande River should be a very pleasant time. Or, maybe not.
We loaded our 4-man tent, gas grill, blow-up mattress pad, etc. in our small SUV and headed south! Both of us were very excited about visiting Big Bend! We finally hit the park and slowed from 75 to 40 mph!
Got our campsite with no problem. Had our name on it and everything! We were immediately welcomed by both the park ranger running around in a golf cart and their 'unofficial' mascot, the road runner. My Sweetie and I got the tent up in a few minutes and all was good.
The local trip up the canyon was easy and fun. The night was really cold!
We hiked several trails, drove the entire park, visited a great restaurant in the Chisos, and saw a mountain lion. Cool!
The highs were around 98° F and the lows around 42° F. Big change and we forgot extra blankets!
Overall, we TOTALLY enjoyed this park and will go back as soon and as often as we can! Therefore, we give this park the highest rating we have - 3 campers!
