Lake Brownwood State Park

After our trip to San Antonio, Sweetie and I took a short weekend trip to Lake Brownwood State Park (LBSP). Here, we once again set up our Pop-up tent camper and relaxed!

This was our first trip to LBSP. Since we had made our reservations a few months ago, getting checked into our camping area was once again quick and painless. All but two of the campsites were available so getting a prime location was pretty easy. We set up our camper in pretty much record time (since it was no where near 110° F, we found the work much easier to perform!) and got an opportunity to try our luck at fishing. The park rangers at the entrance said the fishing was very good since the water level is down, the fish seemed to be much closer together!

Good thing we brought burgers because we didn't have much luck with our rod and reels.
Saturday morning arrived much earlier than I expected. After a filling breakfast, we headed out on the trails. Pretty tough in parts but very scenic throughout, these trails generally followed the banks of the lake for about 3/4 or more miles. Once back, we took a few minutes to think about what we might do and decided to drive into Brownwood and have lunch there.

Overall, Brownwood is simply a small Texas town. Nothing spectacular but I'm glad we visited.

That afternoon, we tried our hands at fishing again. After a couple of hours, I called in quits and headed back to camp. Sweetie came with me but after just a few minutes, she headed back out. Good thing she did because she used her pink Ugly Stick (rod and reel) to haul in a 9" bass! I eventually got down there to take her picture and see if this one was large enough to keep. On her very next cast, she hooked on to a much larger bass! After a great performance, the bass was landed - measuring 14" and large enough to keep! (Please note there are several different types of bass. Ours was a white bass and the legal length is 10".)

Sweetie caught, cleaned, and cooked this critter! She baked it on our grill using butter, tarragon, and slivered almonds! DEE - LISH!

Overall, we slept great both nights even with the small rain storm. And the park was very nice except for the lack of birds. We only saw a couple of grey herons, a few vultures, and some hawks. Otherwise, the only flying critters we saw were damselflies and dragonflies.

I'd rate this trip high and Lake Brownwood State Park I'd rate a solid three campers!
