So, my Sweetie is a geophysicist working out here in Midland, trying to earn enough money for our camping trips and excursions to San Antonio and Las Vegas (did I say we were traveling to Las Vegas in February to watch Rugby 7's?). AND, since she is one of those said geophysicists who belong to the Society for Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), another trip to San Antonio was just plain destiny.
We drove to our favorite city on Friday and checked into our hotel before hitting the famous RiverWalk and having one or three margaritas.
Sweetie had to attend a class all day Saturday so I got to walk my bloody legs off discovering new things about the city.
Sunday, we spent some time together and then I flew back to Midland. Yep, flew. The absolute worst TSA Hitler in the world is working in San Antonio. And that's all I'm going to say about that horrid experience. Except to note that our liberties are being denied, abused, and removed more and more every day that TSA stays in existence!
Tuesday, I fly back to San Antonio (TSA folks in the Midland-Odessa airport are really friendly and don't have the Gestapo complex I've seen in SAN ANTONIO and Las Vegas). Since Sweetie is attending talks all day, I have a lot of free time so I go hat shopping. Bought me a really nice beaver fur XXXXXX Stetson in light gray with almost a bluish tint - but not quite! I like it a lot. (Photo when available.)
Anyway, on Tuesday night, we decide to try a non-Mexican, non-steak, non-loud restaurant and found a gem. Bella on the River is a small, mostly southern European type place. We started with the Eggplant Josephine which is fried Eggplant, Sauteed Texas Gulf Shrimp, Sauce Diablo, Mozzarella Cheese, and Hollandaise! OMG. Great. My entree was Steak Diane that is Pan Seared Beef Tenderloin Medallions, Brandy & Mushroom Demi-Glaze Cream Sauce while my wife had Charbroiled Lamb Chops with Fresh Fig Marsala Demi-Glaze. Yumm. We shared a bottle of Monastrell and Syrah mix, Barahonda “Barrica” from Yecla, Spain. We totally recommend this is you want something different from the traditional RiverWalk cuisine and may be getting a bit tired of the Tex-Mex, Mexican, Latin, Texas, steak, seafood, or burgers meals! Very small with maybe 12 tables. Listen to Allison's recommendations!!!!! And they have only been opened just over 100 days!!! We liked it so much, we've already made reservations for our next trip - in just 3 weeks!
We drive back to Midland on Wednesday. This trip was filled with lots of SEG stuff for my darling. Our next trip to our favorite city will be filled with lots of crytologists! We will be there for the Lone Star Chapter of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association Reunion!
