Today in History

Two very significant events occurred on this date in history.

The most recent event was the raising of the United States flag on Mount Suribachi (that would be on the island of Iwo Jima during 1945). That event may have given us the most iconic symbol of the fighting spirit of the United States Marine Corps we have ever seen [even if the United States Navy was represented by Pharmacist Mate Second Class John H. Bradley].

To understand, first-hand, some of the things that happened that day, take a moment and read about it on history.navy.mil at http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq87-3l.htm

Another significant event for Americans everywhere also happened to occur on this date, 23 February 1836, in a small town named San Antonio - the first day of the Battle of the Alamo.

Two extremely significant events.

God Bless the U.S. Marine Corps and Semper Fi, Devil Dogs!

Remember the Alamo!
