Sharon and I recently had a significant anniversary and decided to spent it in Hawai'i. I have visited O'ahu twice before but both times I was there on business and really didn't do the 'touristy' things. Sharon had never visited the island state before so this was to be a relaxing trip where she and I could enjoy just being together.
The planning for such a trip could have been overwhelming. But, since I let Sharon do all of the planning, I was good. We were to fly from Bush Intercontinental on Continental. Since the flight lasted more than 8 hours, Sharon and I elected to fly first class! Woot!
Sharon continued her planning and managed to find two B&Bs on the Big Island (Hawai'i) at Hilo and Kailua-Kona. That would take care of our first 4 nights. Knowing that I had stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki on my previous trips, she wanted to stay there while on O'ahu. That concluded the 'where are we going to sleep' portion of the trip planning.
Then, the planning continued with rental car reservations, reviewing restaurant information, making a Roy's Waikiki reservation, and looking for interesting sites to visit.
The big day was at hand! We left early so we wouldn't miss our non-stop flight from Houston to Honolulu. As we boarded the aircraft, we noticed the first class folks used their own entrance. Nice! As we were settling in, I realized we had an entire overhead compartment entirely to us! I barely got sat down and the flight attendant was there offering drinks. Sharon got her drink and I got my tomato juice. Too early for booze, even for me!
After we got in the air, I realized that I could make my seat (with foot rest) tilt back and my feet couldn't even touch the seat in front of me! Nice! Again! Soon thereafter, we were served our lunch (real silverware) of steak (for Sharon) and chicken (for me). With a glass of wine, we barely ate much (still too early in the morning) but had enough to make us sleepy. Ah, the airline trick. Feed them, make them go to sleep!
I will continue Day #1 in my next entry.
