So, Sharon decided that, this year, instead of volunteering to either hand out water to the runners or to hold up the signs that say, "Go this way!", she would plunge in and do the Houston Livestock and Rodeo ConocoPhillips 5K Fun Run.
She and some co-workers signed up, got their cool T-shirts and their runners number. Here, to the left, she is with two of her co-workers. The mostly pregnant one on the left is Ayelet, who, I believe, was the instigator of all of this. She's the one who originally spoke to Sharon about doing the run.
OK. So 'Run' is a little extreme in this case. The girls decided to fast walk the 5 kilometers through downtown Houston. The weather turned out to be absolutely delightful for the runners (all tens of thousands of them) so Sharon and her friends had no difficulty completing the entire 5K in about 50 minutes. Of course, it took longer than that for them to even get to the starting line!
Once they finished the event, each felt their own sense of accomplishment but Sharon, in particular, hasn't done an organized walk/run in several years. Our last excursions in that arena were our Volksmarching days back when we lived in North Carolina.
As you can see by her great smile, Sharon (right) basked in the glory of accomplishment simply by completing her journey! I am very proud of her and her achievements.
Now, her friends are talking about running a half marathon to get in shape to take on a full marathon. Gee, think we'll see her in the next Iron Woman competition in Hawai'i?
